Today, I've chosen this super tiny and adorable kitty, Sully, to work with. Sully was born with cleft nose/lip/palate. I think that's what made him more special! Anyway, the wonderful people at Utah Animal Advocacy Foundation (UAAF) took him in to give him all the love and medical care he needed, but unfortunately he passed away too soon. Even with his brief time here, Sully's beautiful story touches the lives of many, some who'd known him merely through FB, myself included. They even have a #smilesfromsully 's day on every Thursday where a random act of kindness is carry out in honour of little Sully! Past Works - Melancholy Collection
Here are some paintings/ drawings I did between 2009 and 2010 for my Melancholy collection. It was one of my favourite collections; dedicated to a close friend I lost to a car accident 12 years ago. Although I try to create only happy drawings now, sometimes I do missed painting melancholy art as it allows me a space to express and release any sadness.

I had my first real art lesson when I was about 9. My parents signed me up for weekly art classes at some community centre because they couldn't afford piano lessons (something I'd also love) back then. So that was where I learned to draw/ paint with different mediums - mainly pencils, crayons and watercolour. I stopped at acrylic painting when I was about 13 and got busy with school life. Anyway long story short, years later, I caved in to peer pressure's 'art degree will get you nowhere', 'you can't make a decent living making art' perception and chose fashion design over fine arts course. The big irony? That's exactly what I'm doing now - making a living with my art.
Admittedly I still can't draw human figures in the correct proportions; I can't draw fingers and toes, my perspective and shadowing is terrible. Ha! But that doesn't stop me from drawing. And yes, I still dream to become a picture book illustrator someday.

For A Good Cause (Saving Turtles)
Did you know a female sea turtle lays between 50 - 130 eggs (depending on the species) and as many as 7 clutches of eggs each nesting season? Did you also know that the sand temperature will determine the sex of the turtle - cooler sand produces more males, warmer sands produce more females?
Sadly, only an estimated one in 1,000 to 10,000 will survive to adulthood... natural obstacles and threats caused by humans are driving them to extinction. Therefore it's really important that we make sure the sea turtles don't die out before it's too late!
As mentioned in my earlier posts, the Singapore Scout Association (SSA) partners with World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF-Malaysia) annually to raise awareness on the importance of Wildlife Conservation; Project Orion: Rovering with Turtles being the sixth project in the series of annual project this year. Rovering With Turtles
Cute news!
I've always love animals and is constantly on the lookout for ways to help any animal support groups/ organisations. This time round, I’m getting myself involved in not just a meaningful but SUPER CUTE collaboration with the Singapore Scout Association (SSA) on their latest project - Project Orion VI. 'Rovering with Turtles' is the sixth project in the series of annual project collaborations between the SSA and World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF-Malaysia).
This project aims to create awareness on the importance of Wildlife Conservation among the participants and Scouting community in Singapore, providing opportunities to Youths to increase their self and global awareness, etc.
Now the cute part.... One of their tasks is to create a safe place for the sea turtles to lay eggs. And when the babies are ready to see the world, to guide them safely into the sea! Protecting baby turtles, how cute!
So, in support of their fundraising effort, I’ll be creating some turtle-themed illustrations and sell them to raise fund. Here’s the very first piece I did, titled 'Vacation'. Superhero Adventure (part 4)
It wasn't hard to spot this Superhero from far. The only thing I had to worry about was getting stepped on. Thankfully that didn't happen. He was rushing off to catch the Spiderman II movie when I found him and so he invited me to join him. Of course I said yes! This sweet gentle giant carried me to sit on his shoulder during the show so I could have the best view (we even shared a gigantic box of popcorn!) Needless to say, it was the BEST movie date I ever had. But..... I really hope I'll get to see Thor soon. :p

I'd spent my Sunday at a local dog shelter Save Our Street Dogs (SOSD)'s flag day event. Seeing soooo many adorable dogs make me wish I can bring them all home! Unfortunately I'm not able to do that. But what I CAN do is help in small little ways such as promoting the welfare of animals through my drawings and donating a portion of my earnings to aid them in running the shelter. I hope I'll be able to do more as time goes by.

Dogs Onboard & Basic Illustration Class - Lesson 8
It's sci fi time again! In lesson 8, we'd to create a stylized/realistic character for the media/gaming industry.
Besides looking a little stiff, I think she looks pretty cool (and hot?). What do you think? :p
Moving on to a totally different style...
Tiny little things are spotted on a boat carrying huge lollipops! Direction of where they're heading is still unclear.
I've always feel a strong connection with dogs and I really hope to do more for our fur buddies, be it raising awareness for adoption or understanding the importance of giving them a 'forever' home. I'll be creating a series of illustrations with dogs (lots and lots of them!) and having the illustrations printed on tote bags, postcards, calendar or t-shirts. Half of the sale proceeds from this project will be donated to a local dog shelter.
At this moment, I do not have alot of fund to start with so I'll have to look to collaboration or platforms like Kickstarter and Threadless for help. If you've any other suggestion, I'd love to hear them.

I have lost count on the number of times I have to 'explain' to people why I refuse to find a full time job over the years. My answer is simple. I hate being controlled by any corporate employment system. And I love my freedom too much. Of course this comes with a price; inconsistent paychecks, being judged by people as 'lazy' and 'unrealistic' etc.
It doesn't help growing up with critical parents. Although they have pretty much given up on me finding a job, my mom still enjoys throwing in negative remarks when the mood strikes her. Just the other day when I was working on this drawing below, she glanced over and commented, 'Why are you drawing these houses? There's nothing special about them.'. Sigh. And I remember vividly the day when I made my very first sale on Etsy a few years back. I was eager to share the news with her. However what seemed to be a casual joke immediately felt like a thousand knives stabbing right into the middle my heart, 'Oh? Which silly customers would want to spend their money on your drawings?'. :(
Honestly, I don't blame my mom for behaving this way because deep down I know she is a very loving and caring lady. Perhaps she was brought up by parents who showed their love in the same manner. Undoubtedly her remarks still affect me a little sometimes, but I have learn to take them with a pinch of salt.
On the other hand, I am very thankful to have a bunch of really encouraging friends and fans. Yes, if you are reading this right now. Thank you!
Well, I have chosen this less travelled path and I have never been happier. :)
Coincidentally, I have named this piece 'Freedom'. The two pieces can be put together to form a larger drawing.
