Over the past week, I've been sharing little doodles on my Facebook page/Instagram and received feedback from some of my followers that they'd enjoyed them. Thanks for letting me know! It means alot to me to have your support. In fact, I created these little doodles to remind myself to be a little better each day. I hope they inspire you to do the same!

One of my favourite doodles say, 'Be silly'! Wouldn't it be great if we can incorporate some fun and laughters into our daily lives? Let your hair down, relax and be a little silly today. Let us spread some love and laughter~

Don't forget to follow my Facebook page or Instagram to see more cute doodles!

Today I was tagged in a photo by a friend who had customised a drawing for his daughter some time ago... I must say, I was really surprised, flattered and humbled by this sweet little girl. Thank you, Casey, you really made my day. :)

Quote of the week & Mini Nono

As we, the whole of Singapore mourn the loss of one of our nation's greatest heroes, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, let's not forget to celebrate his life and what he had done for us. I'm sure he has fulfilled his life's purpose, leaving a significant legacy. And I'm really proud of him. Enjoy your well deserved rest, 'grandpa'. You'll always be remembered.

Let this also serves as a reminder to us that nothing in life is permanent so treasure what we have at any given moment and do the best we can. We only have one life. Celebrate it - live, love, dream.

So, I bought some Jumping Clay (made in Korea) from Art Friend and had some fun making miniature Nono over the weekend. This clay is easy to play with as it is very soft and can be easily moulded into the desired shapes. What I also like about this clay is that, it doesn't stick or stain on your hands/desk like some clay would, yet it is 'gluey' enough to hold different parts together. For instance, I did not even need to use any glue or stick to keep the different parts in place. I did however had trouble removing them once I put them together; that was the downside about this clay. You need to be very accurate in where you intend to place the parts or you'll end up having to redo that area over again. Oh and I haven't tell you another brilliant thing about this wonderful clay - it doesn't require any baking; simply air dry it and ta-dahhh, you get your rubber-like miniature character. BUT, you pay for what you get, this clay is not that cheap.. a small pack of 50g clay cost me $4.70 (about US$3.40). I bought only black and white ones since I can easily knead the two colours together to get grey.

Time to assemble the parts!

First attempt! Does it look like a little penguin? :p

Well, I made a second one and he resembled a baby elephant.. Third try, he turned into Ratatouille. Ha. Finally I'm satisfied with the 4th attempt. He's looking more like my boy with longer body. Ohhhh I miss him so much. :( :( :(

Then Mini Nono meets Ponyo for the first time... Ponyo seemed a little wary. I guess they need some time to warm up to each other.

Mini Nono enjoying his day out and some Starbucks on Day 2.

Sharing a slice of Oreo cheese cake with me.

OSCAS & Quote Of The Week

I was very honoured to have the opportunity to donate some of my cards to Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter – OSCAS , my second beneficiary of the year. I met up with Clara and Mary (co-founder of OSCAS) at Scape last Sunday where they held their 'Oldies Only' Senior Pet Adoption Drive event. This event is actually organised by Old Is Gold, a final year project of a group of undergraduate students from NTU. Do checkout their Facebook page Old Is Gold to show them some support for this amazing initiative!

Behind-the-scene... No Nono now, so I had to prepare these stocks all by myself.

Quote Of The Week

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Sorry for missing on quite abit of updates. I've been busy with reconstructing my website. Just a little more to go!

Alternatively, you can always follow me on Facebook to receive all the lastest news >> https://www.facebook.com/DollgiftByRheea

I'll be sharing a weekly quote on Facebook from now on. Just in case you missed the one last week, here's it:

'Don't compare yourself to others. Compare yourself to the person you were yesterday.'

How often do you catch yourself comparing your looks, ability, skills, status, etc. to someone else's? I'm guilty of that; feeling demoralised when I see other artists/ illustrators doing 'better' - their talent, skills, success, to the number of Likes on their posts. Yes, I know HOW absurd it sounds. I've been learning to use that as a form of motivation or I'll simply have to learn to love myself more.

(Art print is available on Etsy >> https://www.etsy.com/shop/dollgift)

Last week, I'd also made a visit to SPCA - our first beneficiary of the year! Come to think of it, the last time I'd been there was probably more than 10 years ago? Yeah, I was still a teenage girl back then. Time flies! Now it's so much easier to get around SPCA with the MRT Circle Line (Bartley Station) located just beside the rescue centre.

The adoption area is open to public for viewing at the following time slot: Monday to Wednesday and Friday to Sunday and Public Holidays: 11.00am to 4.00pm. Of course there is a long list of rescue centres other than the SPCA. So the next time you plan to get a pet, please please please seriously consider adopting one instead of buying.

You can purchase my cards and many other products at their merchandise section or online store here >> http://www.spca.org.sg/onlineshop.asp
Shop for a good cause today!

Before I go, I'm going to leave you the quote for this week:

'Today is a gift. Don’t forget to enjoy and bask in every moment you are in.'

''If you ever think you have almost nothing, remember to be thankful for the sun, the water, the earth, and all of the love in your life. You will soon realise that you actually have everything.''

Updates

HELLO!

It's FRIDAY once again!! Are you doing a happy dance behind your desk? Speaking of dance, you wouldn't want to miss Nono tap dancing in his sleep. Catch the adorable moves on our Facebook Page! He must have smelled Friday.

nono_dollgiftbyrheea.png

Before we proceed, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who went down to show us your support at MAAD last Friday. I hope you had fun and managed to bring home something you like.

As some of you may know, I've been working on my greeting cards line lately. Getting into the greeting card business is my next plan for Dollgift. Though I've designed and produced two collections in the past (everyday and Christmas collection), those were illustrated for my very own line. With much research, I've learnt a great deal more about the real greeting card business out there.

The very first challenge for me is to create illustrations that consumers would want to buy. And I'm not talking about a handful of consumers.. Greeting cards companies have to make sure my illustrations would generate lots of sales for them in order to want to carry my works. Almost all the the articles I came across would recommend doing more colourful designs. With that said, I'm known to create illustrations with very little colours (usually as highlights), sometimes simply plain black and white. I love clean, minimalist style and have been very happy with this signature but I'm ready to step out of my comfort zone to explore more colourful works. I already have friends commenting that my drawings are looking happier with more colours now! :)

I decided that several pieces of my drawings were a little too dull for greeting cards and probably need some changes. Here are two pieces I re-worked on.

F.A.I.T.H

It's the Friday again. Where has all the time gone?!

Gosh. Before we know, it's Christmas again. I LOVE Christmas, but please don't come so fast.. I have tons of to-dos on my list that I've yet to cross off. :(

It's been awhile since I drew a tree (even though these are just part of a tree. lol)! I've decided. I shall include trees in my drawings more often from now on. Afterall they are beautiful and so fun to work with!

I believe we need a little faith in everything we do in life. This is the message I want to remind everyone, including myself, to keep that faith even when life gets tough.

Picking A Falling Star

Done with my latest work!

I did it a little differently this time round. What do you think of my dotted dash strokes? :)

Took me quite a while to finish this piece since the strokes are much harder to control and I had to do a fair bit of editing in Photoshop. Nevertheless, I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.

Fly Me To The Moon

If you've been following my works, you may notice a little more details in my recent drawings compared to my past works. I'll let you in on a little secret.. I'd discovered the pleasure of seeing my plain white paper covered with little pen strokes.. the more the better. I know what you're thinking; my boyfriend and friend think I'm a pervert too. Lol.

The challenges I faced on this particular piece were the cloud's shading and funnily, the moon! I had to google on the color of the moon and got confused further since it's color tone varies on different days. After finally deciding on an orange-yellow tone and happily filled up the moon, I realized it was looking more like a sun. -.- I was on the verge of changing the concept to a sun instead but decided to give it one last shot. This time, I added in more shades of yellow and some chickenpox-like detail (what a nice description). Honestly, I'm still not very satisfied with the result but that should be the best for now.

Follow The Stars

I have always been fascinated with the sky above; the moon, the stars, the clouds and rainbow. Each time I stare up into the blue sky or a star-filled night, I find myself wondering what's beyond. Are there Angels, Unicorns or other celestial beings living above? Strange as it may sound, I feel an immense sense of peace by the thought of it. Somehow my heart 'knew' that was where I came from and I will be going back there someday...

I Want To Be The Brightest Star In The Sky

After much procrastination, I'd picked up that pencil/pen again! Heh. Not surprisingly, I couldn't stop once I get started.

Many people have told me how cool a tablet is, that I could easily and instantly edit any mistake while drawing. Well, I bought a tablet 2 years ago, worked on a few projects with it and now I'm considering to sell it. Lol. I guess I still very much prefer the natural look of the strokes of a real inked pen than that of a tablet. Plus, I actually find traditional drawing very therapeutic!

I'd spent 1 hour on the grass alone and I love how it turned out (now you know why I said it's therapeutic). I doubt I can create the same effect with a tablet.

Lastly, filling in the colors in Photoshop!

Couldn't decide which one looks better.. Perhaps I like the blue star a wee bit more since it is one of my favorite colors.

Insane

Recently, I fell in love with something I never thought I would – Instagram! The main reason is not because I get to share photos instantly with my followers but rather, I’ve found so many brilliant artists/designers from there! Besides playing Angry Birds on the train/bus now (don’t laugh!), I can also keep my creative juice flowing with creative stuffs.

In the midst of checking out some amazing works yesterday, I came across this INSANE guy (couldn’t find a more suitable word to describe him) – David Jon Kassan. Looking through his works just make me want to cry! They’re just so… INSANE! And I can’t not share them with you.

In case you’re wondering, David is NOT a photographer…….

These are real oil paintings.

You can find more of his works and tutorial HERE.

And speaking of Instagram, remember to follow us on Instagram

I'm Blessed ^^

Hello! So sorry for the delay of this post.

First of all, I would like to do a BIG shout out to everyone, especially to my friends (over 30 of them!) who came by our booth last Friday.

Thank you so much guys!! I really appreciate your presence and it certainly means alot to have your support. I so regret not taking a photo with each of you. :(

Pardon the image quality, there wasn't enough light in the room.

I felt so loved that day...

I've had sweet friends to help me delivered those merchandise/props to the venue, setting up the booth, bought me food/drinks, and lovely customer who came down specially to pass me a gift she made.

I've had my awesome boyfriend to help out at the booth when I needed to catch up with friends I hadn't seen in years. AND there was one friend who dropped by with a big BIG surprise for me. I need to tell you what this absolutely generous and awesome friend of mine had bought me.........

It was a pair of Melissa ANGEL heels! *Keyword here is ANGEL. Now you know my fetish.

Isn't this stunning?!!

This is in fact the most expensive pair of shoes I own! Ha. However, what made my little heart swelled with emotions apart from this bubble gum smelling shoes was the handwritten notecard that says,

''Congrats on taking this big step! I'm so proud of you. Just know you are one of the bravest people I know. I know this is just one of the many big things you will be doing with your dreams. To many more big steps, and now you can do that with pretty shoes. :p I love you! Take flight and follow your dreams'' - ❤ Eva.

You might be wondering; why would getting a booth at the flea market seems like such a big thing for me? No, my friend is not exaggerating. It may seem like a simple task for just anyone but certainly not for someone with social anxiety. The need to speak with so many strangers in one day is close to asking me to jump into a sea full of sharks. Of course I'm not saying my customers are sharks but you get my point.

I've always thought I have an exceptionally 'shy' personality, that's it. But now as I reflect on my past, I recall being misunderstood all the time. 'Arrogant', 'aloof' or 'anti-social' are just some of the labels people have used on me. Truth is, deep beneath that cool mask was a very fearful and insecure girl. I would get totally stressed up when I meet new people or get very nervous when strangers stop me on the street to ask for direction. In fact, I never knew there is a term call 'social anxiety' until recently when I came across this article, 'Anxiety No More' written by Paul David. As I read through his story, I felt he was totally writing about me! At one part, he said,

''I would also avoid eye contact and just wanted to escape. Because of this I started avoiding people and I was perceived as ignorant more than once. I don't blame people for this perception of me and as far as I was concerned that was far better than having to go and talk to others. I just found it so difficult to hold a conversation and I never felt part of it.''

As odd as it may sound to you, this is exactly what I'm going through. I felt such a huge relief to know I'm not alone. I guess my low self-esteem and already existing anxiety issue must have contributed to this. If you suspect anyone who could be suffering from social anxiety or other anxiety issues, it would really help to read up about what they're going through. Your support and encouragement would mean alot to them.

I may still be struggling from racing heart, shortness of breath and sleeping difficulty every single day or more symptoms every other day, but I'm really grateful to have some wonderful friends and a very supportive boyfriend on my journey. On my part, I promise to take baby steps at a time to overcome those fears. :)

Thank you again for reading.

❤ Xoxo, Rheea.
